Solar Panels

A solar panel system generates electricity by capturing sunlight through roof-mounted photovoltaic (PV) panels. The electricity produced is converted from DC to usable AC power by an inverter, allowing it to run household appliances, heating controls, and other electrical systems within the home. Any unused energy can either be exported back to the grid or stored in a battery for later use.

Installation

A typical installation includes solar panels, mounting equipment, cabling, safety isolators, and an inverter. A standard string inverter converts solar energy for immediate use, while a hybrid inverter also allows battery storage to be connected. Inverter size affects how much power the system can handle, with 3.6kW systems suited to average homes and 5kW systems better for larger properties, higher energy usage, or homes with batteries and EV charging.

Battery Storage

Battery storage allows excess daytime electricity to be saved for use in the evening, reducing reliance on the grid. A 5kWh battery is suitable for moderate household use, while a 10kWh battery offers greater storage capacity for larger homes or increased energy independence. Optional smart energy management systems can also be fitted to automatically optimise how solar power is used, stored, or exported, helping maximise efficiency and savings.

Panel Options

Solar panels are available in different performance levels and efficiencies. Higher-efficiency panels generate more electricity from less roof space and often perform better in lower light conditions, while standard panels provide a more cost-effective option.

Scaffolding

Solar installations will usually require scaffolding to provide safe roof access during fitting. Depending on the roof size and number of panels being installed, scaffolding may be needed on one side of the property or around the full building.
